About the course
The English IGCSE is an internationally recognized qualification designed to foster a strong grasp of language, punctuation, various writing styles, literature, and the underlying purposes of authors.
This course aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of language usage, subject terminology, punctuation, and authorial intent across diverse text types. It familiarizes students with a range of text genres, facilitating the development of valuable skills such as evaluation, identification, and analysis.
Throughout the course, students will engage with various text types, including poetry, creative writing, and letters, preparing them thoroughly for their IGCSE examination.
Assessment in the English IGCSE will encompass multiple-choice questions, research tasks, and essay-based evaluations.
The course comprises five modules, each concluding with an assessment to reinforce and evaluate students’ knowledge and comprehension.

This course comes as part of a package where access to 4 IGCSEs is given for the price of £1500, these include English, Physics, Maths and Business Studies.

English Core Skills:
This module serves as the foundation for essential English skills necessary to successfully navigate the rest of the course. While the examination doesn't feature specific spelling and punctuation questions, correct usage of both is expected, along with the ability to express ideas in grammatically sound English.
- Reading Comprehension: This module focuses on assessing reading comprehension (AO1), measuring your capacity to read with understanding and select relevant information from passages. Questions will pertain to passages that share a common theme or subject matter.
- Writing to Specific Guidelines: This section evaluates your aptitude for composing written responses in adherence to explicit guidelines, which will be provided in response to materials presented in the examination.
- Writing Reviews, Blogs, and Articles: Reviews take diverse forms today, with online reviews wielding substantial influence, even affecting businesses. For exam purposes, we will concentrate on longer reviews, distinct from the shorter ones commonly found on platforms like Trustpilot.
- Writing Styles and Exam Preparation: This module encompasses various formats of transactional writing, including instructions, reports, letters, reviews, blogs, articles, and leaflets. It equips you with the necessary skills to excel in these formats and prepares you effectively for the examination.

How do I sit the IGCSE Exam?
Approximately 6 months before an exam date, Students should book their place at an exam centre to take the English (Specification B Paper 1 Paper code: 4EB1/01) exam.
The exam centre could be a be a private exam centre or a school or college that is also submitting its own students for the exam.
Edexcel publish a list of exam centres that accept private candidates. This won’t cover every available centre, so if there’s nothing shown in your area, we recommend contacting local schools and colleges directly.
Exam fees are not included in the course cost as they are paid directly to the exam centre. They will vary depending on which centre you choose.
Career path
Upon completion of this course, students will have the foundations and fundamental knowledge needed in to study A levels or a Level 3 qualification with London Academy of Business and Management.
How will I know if I am eligible to complete an IGCSE?
The typical age at which people choose to complete the IGCES’s is 14 to 16, but anyone over the age of 14 can enrol onto this course. You also do not need any previous qualifications to be eligible for this course.
